Driving the Denali National Park Road

Driving the Denali National Park Road, we got a driving permit for Denali National Park!! Come along on the adventure!

Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic Denali National Park is allowing visitors to drive their own vehicle. Normally visitors have to take a bus to tour the park road but this summer they are allowing a small number of people to drive to Teklanika or Eilson Visitors Center. After trying dozens of times I finally scored a road pass to Eilson, mile 66 of the park road.

The scenery was spectacular and we saw a couple of grizzlies. The next day we saw a big bull moose close to the road and some cute ermine babies on a hike.

We took our Escape Travel Trailer 21 and camped in the savage river campground in the Denali National Park. Reservations for Denali National Park can be difficult to get. We were able to snag a last minute spot due to a cancellation because Angie looked online before talking to the Ranger who thought it was booked up! Lots of hiking from our camp and the spots were spaced well apart in most areas.
